Direct-to-DVD animated movie. The Dark Knight Returns. It's a pretty direct adaptation of the first half of the comic. The second movie that covers the second half is coming out at the end of the month.
Guess you didn't know about it because you don't check comic book/ DC/ cartoon news websites? Toonzone News [link] is good for keeping up with what cartoons are being made
This piece is based on the 1986 Frank Miller four issue miniseries “The Dark Knight Returns.” The story takes place when Batman is 55 years old in a neo-punk future where all have been banned by the government, save Superman who works for the US Government. The story is heavily influenced by 1980’s fashion and political climate. In the story the Cold War is still ongoing and the leaders of Russia and the USA are molded after Ronald Regan and Mikhail Gorbachev. Batman has not been on the scene for about 10 years when he is compelled by events in the story to take up the cape and cowl again. Through the course of the story he takes on a new Robin 13-year old Carrie Kelley (pictured above). If memory serves the nature of her sexual orientation was never addressed but she is certainly an 80’s chick.
